title: Large Rolling Wheel (大翻車) — Eight Step Mantis
---

**大翻車 (Dà Fānchē, "Large Rolling Wheel")** is the larger of the two **翻車 ("rolling-wheel")** sets in the [**Eight Step Praying Mantis**](https://wulin.openmindspace.org/eight-step-mantis) curriculum of [**Wei Xiaotang (衛笑堂)**](https://wulin.openmindspace.org/wei-xiaotang) — **32 postures** of bigger, more extended wheeling actions, threaded with the branch's named postures: 八仙過海 ("Eight Immortals cross the sea"), 脫衣摸袖 ("shed the coat, touch the sleeve"), 繡女引針 ("the embroidering maiden threads the needle"), and Wei's signature **黑虎出洞 ("black tiger emerges from the cave")**.

## What it trains

- **Large-frame 翻車 wheeling** — extended versions of the rolling chop
- **Named-posture vocabulary** — the poetic image-postures that recur through 摘要
- **黑虎出洞** — Wei's signature technique appears here (posture 28) as well as in 摘要一段
- **Closing** — 偷手三捶, 回身撩陰掌, 摟手窩肚捶, 雙封手

## Full posture script — 32 postures

The posture-name list as set down in the **松傳古藝武術學苑** 拳譜 (the 林松賢 / 左顯富 line, direct Wei Xiaotang disciples), reproduced under fair-use citation; the English are the wiki's own working glosses. Eight Step movement names are longer and more *descriptive* than the tight four-character Seven Star style.

## Place in the curriculum

The companion to 小翻車, trained after it. **Note:** distinct from the **Seven Star** 大翻車 / 大番車 — Wong Hon Fan's 51-posture "Big Water Wheel" ([separate page](https://wulin.openmindspace.org/large-wheeling)); the two share a name but are different forms in different lineages.
